Microneedling Pre & Post Treatment Instructions

Microneedling creates controlled microchannels to support collagen remodeling, texture refinement, and overall skin rejuvenation. Careful pre-care and aftercare help protect the skin while it heals.

Quick note

Plan treatment at least 2 weeks before major events. Redness, warmth, tightness, dryness, or mild swelling can happen during recovery.

Before microneedling

  • Avoid retinoids, Retin-A, tretinoin, and exfoliating acids for at least 72 hours before treatment.
  • Do not receive IPL or laser treatments within 7 days of your session unless approved.
  • If shaving is needed, shave at least 24 hours before treatment.
  • Arrive with clean skin free of makeup, sunscreen, lotion, or oils.
  • Tell us at least 3 days in advance if you have a history of cold sores so antiviral medication can be discussed if needed.

During your appointment

  • Your skin will be cleansed and topical numbing is typically applied for comfort.
  • Needle depth is adjusted based on the area, skin condition, and treatment goals.
  • You may feel warmth, tightness, or a slightly itchy sensation, especially in sensitive areas.

After microneedling

  • Avoid makeup, heavy sweating, hot tubs, saunas, steam, and direct sun exposure for the first 24 hours unless your provider gives different instructions.
  • Use only gentle, approved products while the skin is healing.
  • Avoid retinoids, exfoliating acids, scrubs, and aggressive facial treatments until cleared.
  • Keep the skin moisturized and protect it with sunscreen once appropriate.

Results and recovery

  • Microneedling results build gradually as collagen remodeling occurs.
  • A series is usually recommended for acne scars, texture, fine lines, and collagen support.
  • Contact us if redness, swelling, discomfort, or irritation feels unusual or worsens instead of improving.
