Botox & Neurotoxin Pre & Post Care Instructions

Neurotoxins such as Botox and Xeomin are placed into targeted muscles with small injections. Preparation can help reduce bruising, swelling, and unnecessary irritation.

Quick note

Small bumps, redness, swelling, or minor bruising can happen after injections and usually improve quickly. Full results typically develop over 10 to 14 days.

Before neurotoxins

  • If medically appropriate, avoid aspirin, ibuprofen, naproxen, fish oil, vitamin E, ginkgo biloba, and alcohol for 3 to 5 days before treatment to reduce bruising risk.
  • Do not stop prescribed blood thinners without physician approval.
  • Arrive with clean skin when possible and avoid heavy creams or oils immediately before treatment.
  • Tell us about new medications, supplements, recent cosmetic treatments, active infections, fever, cold sore outbreaks, or recent facial surgery.

First 4 hours after treatment

  • Stay upright and avoid lying flat.
  • Avoid bending forward excessively.
  • Do not rub or massage treated areas.
  • Light daily activity is fine.

First 24 hours

  • Avoid intense workouts, hot yoga, saunas, steam rooms, and alcohol.
  • You may apply light makeup after 4 hours.
  • Gentle skincare can resume the same day, but avoid aggressive exfoliation or facial treatments for at least 24 hours.

Results

  • Initial softening is often noticeable within 3 to 5 days.
  • Full results are usually seen around 10 to 14 days.
  • Contact us if you have unexpected symptoms or questions about how your treatment is settling.
